Pottery Intro (Hand-building Organic Functional Forms) – 6 nights
Let’s get back to our ancestral roots with this introductory pottery course. Pottery has been around for centuries long before the pottery wheel was invented! This course is a practical approach to hand building organic functional forms in clay. This is a class dedicated to helping beginners take their first steps to creating with clay and will use techniques such as pinching and coiling, burnishing clay for a smooth finish, and the paddling technique, all with the use of a few basic hand tools. This course will introduce students to historical Clay cultural influences and techniques through video clips, demonstrations, the properties of working with clay and green ware and the techniques necessary to create basic organic pottery forms by hand. Organic forms include pinch pots, coil pots, mugs, bowls and types of handles. An introduction to glazing will also be covered.
